Janice Cheung is an avid chamber musician and orchestral leader who joined the CSO as principal cellist in 2020. She is a founding cellist of the Four Seasons Camerata and a frequent performer with several orchestras including the Temecula Valley Symphony and Coachella Valley Symphony. Also a passionate educator, Janice formerly served as cello instructor of Harmony Project at the Riverside Arts Academy, and she maintains a private studio with over fifteen years of teaching experience.

Born in South Korea, Janice began playing the cello at the age of five. She attended the Sunhwa Arts School in Korea and continued her cello studies at the Idyllwild Arts Academy after moving to the U.S. in 2000. She then studied with Brandon Vamos at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she was a member of Enescu ensemble and so began a lifelong love of chamber music. It is her passion to share powerful stories and to inspire young students through the gift of music.
